The Newcastle Herald understands that Ibini has secured a release, after signing a one-year deal with the Jets in August.
The 28-year-old has been intent on leaving the club since coach Carl Robinson abruptly departed in October to sign a three-year deal with Western Sydney.
Robinson brought Ibini to Newcastle late last season, having previously worked together at Vancouver Whitecaps.
The former Socceroo played in six games for the Jets, three in the starting team, and scored one goal.
He has been absent for much of the pre-season, at one point taking time off for "stress leave".
It is understood the Jets will receive compensation for allowing him to leave.
It is expected he will join Robinson at the Wanderers in the near future.
