In her first season as head coach of Newcastle's W-League side, Wilson has been in rebuilding mode after the departures of starting midfielders Clare Wheeler (Sydney) and Libby Copus-Brown (Western Sydney) along with attacking players Jenna Kinglsey (retirement), Teigan Collister (Western Sydney), Nicki Flannery (Canberra) and Renee Pountney (United States college system).
Paige Kingston-Hogg established herself as a starting midfielder by the end of last season, in which the Jets finished with the wooden spoon, but misses this campaign after having a knee reconstruction.
The Jets open their 2020-21 campaign with two home games in five days at No.2 Sportsground. They host Brisbane on December 28 then Adelaide on New Year's Day.
"Obviously, it's not ideal to have two games in close succession but we'll manage the loads and you just play the hand you're dealt," Wilson said.
"I'm quite happy with where everyone is at, so if I need to rest people I'm in a position where I can potentially do that.
"Brisbane seem to have retained a number of their players. They've got Katrina Gorry, Tameka Yallop and Emily Gielnik. They're going to be a very challenging first opponent.
"We've got a lot of versatility, which is pleasing, and everyone I've brought in has a really good mentality. They want to work hard. They want to get better."
Wilson has recruited several players out of the National Premier League NSW Women's.
They include attacking player Sunny Franco, who has W-League experience and played for NPL NSW Women's champions Manly alongside long-serving Jets players Tara Andrews and Cassidy Davis.
"[Sunny] is doing quite well and looking quite sharp," Wilson said. "She's playing out wide, generally out on the right wing. She's had a couple of years out of W-League but has played a couple of years at Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC.
"The midfielders are all working well together. Tara has got a number of people she can play with up top and we're still building that. It's not so much utilising her more because she was utilised a lot last year, but she was also quite heavily marked.
"She was our main outlet. So it's about continuing to support her to be effective when she has the ball. Trying to create a few layers to our attack and be threatening in a number of different areas."
Andrews was Newcastle's leading scorer last season with five goals. Also putting their hands up for front third positions will be Lauren Allan, who made her W-League debut last campaign, and this year's Herald Women's Premier League player of the year Jemma House.
Among other new recruits for the Jets is Sophie Harding, who was North West Sydney's leading scorer in NPL NSW Women's this year and scored when the Jets beat Sydney 1-0 in a trial on December 6.
"At the moment everything is up for grabs and people are working as hard as they possibly can in those positions," Wilson said. "We're just really looking forward to the season starting and getting more games under our belt.
"An important message that I've drummed in is nothing is certain at the moment. Everything is up for grabs and, at the same time, if you don't make that starting line-up you're still a very integral part and you still have opportunities if you're prepared to work."
The Jets unveiled their W-League squad to members at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday.
