MINING giant Glencore has been issued with a notice on Wednesday afternoon to clean up a massive cement spill in a creek at Sugarloaf State Conservation Area.

A day after the Newcastle Herald revealed extensive mine subsidence damage to the state-owned reserve created by West Wallsend Colliery, the Office of Environment and Heritage issued the owner of the mine with a formal remediation direction.
The leak occurred in June during remediation works of the mine subsidence damage.
A spokesman said the department was investigating regulatory action, including prosecution.
