Price came up with the idea of writing her first children's book four months ago after being inspired by her oldest son, Leroy, aged 3.
Leroy started asking questions about the moon and Price came up with the idea for Digby's Moon Mission.
With the story written and ready to go, Price is using the crowd-funding website Pozible.com to recruit project backers who will help pay for illustrations, design and publishing fees.
In addition to receiving the book, backers can also receive additional rewards such as a bookmark or a library tote bag.
Price will need to raise $6000 by Wednesday, August 27, for the money to be released to her to pay for the book to be illustrated, designed and published.
She has already reached 50 per cent of her target goal, thanks to an active social media campaign.
Price said she recommended crowd-funding to anyone looking to get their project up and running.
"It's wonderful. It was quite challenging at first and I spent hours preparing my page," she said.
"But I've learnt so much about self-marketing . . . and having promotional and creative control over the process."
If all goes to plan, the book will be ready in time for Christmas.
