A further 23 charges had been laid against Donald Victor Greenaway who was charged with more than 50 offences last December relating to seven boys, Newcastle Local Court heard yesterday.
The additional complainants had come forward in recent months and detectives were expected to lay more charges in the coming weeks, magistrate Robert Stone was told.
Mr Greenaway, 83, formerly of Thornton, is accused of indecently and sexually assaulting boys during a period spanning four decades, court documents said.
Some charges relate to alleged offences against minors at the United Protestant Association’s Woodlands children’s home at Wallsend in the 1960s.
Other charges relate to complainants who allege they were abused at various locations in the Hunter Valley and Queanbeyan as recently as 1993.
Mr Greenaway is also accused of possessing child abuse material in the form of DVDs allegedly found at his Thornton home.
He is in custody and has not entered pleas. His case was adjourned to October.
Mr Greenaway is a retired accountant and former scripture and Sunday school teacher.
Two other people have been charged over the alleged sexual abuse of children at Woodlands.
