INTERESTING to read Rodney Pike’s comments after he received his eight-year ban from harness racing (‘‘Trainer-driver cops eight-year ban for cobalt violations’’ Herald 20/11).
He says: ‘‘The way things are going with harness racing, who wants to be in it anyway?’’
So true.
We own horses in the Hunter who are with honest trainers who stick to the rules.
But we are sick of trainers everywhere who dope their horses in a bid to win races.
How can horses improve their performance by 50metres in one week after being transferred to another trainer?
Yet some of these performances are not even queried by the stewards. There is a serious problem in the Hunter harness industry.
Some might say it’s just bad luck if you get caught, others justice. But if proven guilty of a crime, you do the time.
