MORE than 160 Aboriginal male youth marched from Newcastle Police Station to King Edward Park to protest violence against women on Friday.
‘‘Walk a Mile, Koori Style,’’ is about taking a pledge against domestic violence as part of the White Ribbon Day movement.
The young men took a pledge against the violence and marched in hope of social change and safety for women.
School kids, musicians, parents and Aboriginal Elders turned out for the event, which was followed by music and food in the park.
Brian Murray, a member of the Newcastle Koori community said he wanted to make a change in the way people violence against women.
‘‘I’m here because I think it needs to change,’’ he told the Newcastle Herald.
