Man stabbed four times in Mayfield

Ambulance paramedics and Newcastle City police were called to Barton Street about 9.20pm after reports of a stabbing. 

When they arrived they found a man suffering four stab wounds. It is believed the man was stabbed once in the chest and upper back and twice in the lower back.

It was unknown on Friday night how deep the wounds were or what weapon was used. 

He was taken to John Hunter Hospital. 

Newcastle City police are investigating.
