The five-metre saltwater crocodile’s birthday present was 50 kilograms of sheep to devour in front of keen crowds. 

Elvis performed a famous death roll, in which crocodiles use their own body weight to roll around their prey to kill it. 

Keepers also played tug-of-war with the 500 kilogrom crocodile before untying his present and allowing him to feed.

General manager at the Australian Reptile Park Tim Faulkner said Elvis will believe he has made the kill himself.

‘‘He will think he’s killed prey, take it into the water, deathroll, guard and eat,’’ he said. 

Elvis arrived at the park in 2008 after causing problems in the Northern Territory and shot to fame after he almost ate a keeper’s lawnmower and lost two teeth in the 2011 battle. 

Crocodiles have been known to live over 100 years in captivity.
