AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF SINGAPORE’S HOUSING and Development Board, Ms Cheong successfully accommodated 82 per cent of Singapore’s population in one million flats.
It continued her distinguished public service career.
Dr Cheong is also the deputy secretary (special duties) in the Ministry of National Development and formerly the CEO of Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority, from 2004 to 2010.
Dr Cheong distinguished herself in this role as a global leader in urban renewal. She was in charge of Singapore’s strategic land-use planning, urban design, conservation of built heritage and the real estate market.
Having led the joint master planning efforts for the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco City, Dr Cheong was appointed eco adviser to the Tianji-Binhai New Area in China.
She is also on the World Business Council on Sustainable Development’s expert Assurance Panel for the Asian Infrastructure Project.
In response to growing demand Ms Cheong set up the Urban Renewal Authority International Group in 2009.
This allows her to share her planning experience with numerous countries and serve on signifi cant international bodies.
She has received several Singapore National Day Awards culminating in the Meritorious Service Award.
