Led by the Australian Marching Band, about 400 staff, students and graduates will make their way from Newcastle Museum at 1pm to Wheeler place via Hunter, Auckland and King streets.
‘‘We invite the community to join us for this special occasion to celebrate half a century of delivering the highest quality education, research and innovation and to look forward to building the next 50 years,’’ vice-chancellor Caroline McMillen said.
In addition to celebrating 50 years, the parade is also a nod to the university’s Autonomy Day celebrations of years past. The parade will be followed by the faculty of engineering and built environment graduation ceremony at the Civic Theatre at 2.30pm.
