Many, including several large figs, have fallen while others have been damaged so badly they may need to be felled.
Around the corner in Laman Street, two more large figs fell, damaging some surrounding homes and parked cars.
The street remained closed on Wednesday as crews carried out the precarious task of removing the trees limb by limb.
Two of the new trees outside Newcastle library, planted after the huge figs were controversially removed in 2011, also suffered.
One was destroyed entirely while the other sustained significant damage.
Newcastle council crews spent the day chainsawing their way through fallen debris in the park and removing the remains of one large fig that fell partly across King Street.
Among the trees lost were the historic Lone Pine in the south-eastern corner and the memorial tree adjacent to the cenotaph.
The cenotaph itself sustained minor damage, mainly around its capping. It won't be repaired in time for Anzac Day on Saturday, but it will be repaired.
Newcastle council is yet to finalise a full assessment of the damage but said each of the remaining trees will be assessed once emergency clean-up work has been completed.
