The University of Newcastle communications student has pulled off what might be the first food delivery service to surfers using a drone.
The verdict?
“They were amazed,” he said.
“They got so excited they all wanted a sip of the coffee each. It was a quiet a nice surprise for them.”
The Central Coast man stopped Crescent Head beach-goers in their tracks last week when he pulled the idea “out of thin air”.
But the project started to take on a life of its own when surfers and baristas alike wanted to join in. Two flat whites, a caramel tart and a jam donut was the order.
A success, a video of the project was shared on Facebook and has reached more than 20,000 views.
“I wanted to make a video that would get a bit of attention, but I had no idea it would get this much attention,” Mr Evans said.
“It’s going up by 100 views every 10 to 20 minutes.”
Mr Evans said he and his mates had thought about developing the idea into a business.
“There’s been thoughts about it. It has only been playful but with uni finishing up soon, we might start to take it a bit more seriously,” he said.
A rubbish bag was flown out once the surfers were finished with their breakfast.
