Fort and Waugh, who were best men at each other’s wedding, will be clocking up miles for The Captain’s Ride which is raising money for children with rare diseases.
The duo and one-time Hamilton-Wickham skipper Todd Campbell join other sporting legends such as recently retired cyclist Anna Meares and 2014 Australian of the Year Adam Goodes.
The peloton start at Bowral next Saturday (October 29) and finish at Mount Kosciuszko six days and 700 kilometres later, including stops at Goulburn, Canberra and Cooma.
* WAUGH’S twin brother Mark was at Newcastle City Hall on Tuesday as the guest speaker for the Newcastle Business Club.
* FROM the same era West Indian maestro Brian Lara is also due for a Hunter visit, making an appearance at Kurri Kurri Bowling Club on November 19.
* EVER wondered what it’s like to play blind cricket?
Punters can have a crack as part of a “come and try” event at Harker Oval on Sunday (10-12). It will be followed by a Twenty20 match at 1pm, which features Cameron Park-based Australian blind cricket representative Matthew Cameron.
* SNAPSHOT (round 3): Newcastle City 4-88 v University 141; Toronto 9(dec)-332 v Wallsend 1-12; Belmont 6(dec)308 v Cardiff-Boolaroo 68 & 5-29; Waratah-Mayfield 3-73 v Charlestown 120; Wests v Hamilton-Wickham and Merewether v Stockton-Raymond Terrace (revert to one-dayers).
* A FEW cricketers made the most of last weekend’s wash out with a spur-of-the-moment trip to Newcastle races, but lets just hope they cashed in on Caulfield Cup favourite and $4.20 winner Jameka late in the day.
