The Wollombi Valley Chamber of Commerce will launch its DVD Visit Wollombi to promote the area to visitors.
Chamber president John Harrison said the DVD is based on a short film called We Love Wollombi Coz ... and celebrates the survival and ongoing spirit of a ‘‘remarkable’’ Hunter Valley community following the devastating June 2007 long weekend floods.
Wollombi received 442 millimetres of rain in 72 hours and much of the picturesque landscape and historic buildings were threatened.
The DVD, which was financed through the Hunter Region Recovery Fund, a state and federal governments initiative, showcases the historic village as a unique tourist destination, with boutique wineries, cafes, restaurants, colonial and Aboriginal history and a range of accommodation choices.
Representatives from the NSW Premier’s Department, Member for Cessnock Kerry Hickey and civic leaders from Cessnock City Council will attend the launch at Panino’s Restaurant.
