It’s understood Ms Payne will join the head of the government’s perfluoroalkyl [PFAS] taskforce, Senator James McGrath, for a meeting with a select group of residents on Wednesday.
However secrecy surrounds the specifics of the visit and the Minister’s office could not be reached for comment on Wednesday morning.
When Ms Payne visited the base for the first time in June last year, she promised that – if re-elected – she would attend a public meeting with residents and representatives of other government agencies.
She also told the Newcastle Herald that the issue of legal liability for the losses suffered by residents could not be addressed until formal testing results had been received.
The federal government has now been in possession of those results for several months.
