The NSW Supreme Court has this morning awarded Gillian Sneddon the damages, after her career as an electorate staffer ended when she helped police convict Orkopoulos for child sex and drug offences.
Ms Sneddon sued the Speaker of the NSW Legislative Assembly and the state of NSW, as well as Orkopoulos, over bullying and harassment.
She did not win against the state.
Justice Derek Price awarded her a total of $438,613.75 in damages.
Outside the court, Ms Sneddon said she felt vindicated after her at times traumatic fight for justice.
Her win would send a message to others to speak out about child abuse no matter the circumstances, she said.
