The new hospital received $5 million for preparatory work – money added to the $20 million planning stage that began in 2013.
With an estimated total build of $450 million, Tuesday’s budget continued drip-feed funding for the project that was promised by the previous Liberal member, Robyn Parker.
But Treasurer Dominic Perrottet defended the government’s record on hospitals.
“They would have never been built under Labor,” he said.
The centrepiece of the government’s health infrastructure spend was the $720 million upgrade of the Prince of Wales Randwick Hospital.
The government says is spending a total of $7.7 billion on healthcare over the next four years.
