Olympic medalist John Steffensen took a walk through the pits yesterday afternoon. The 400m star, and friend of Usain Bolt, has been revealed as the the Carrera Cup driver for new team 23 Red, which will replace Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport in 2018.
Bolt was expected to arrive in Newcastle on a chartered flight from Melbourne with Steffensen, but the eight-time Olympic gold medalist fell ill overnight.
Bolt may still attend the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 over the weekend.
The first qualifying round for Aussie Racing Cars will commence from 1.05pm on Friday.
