Pile-ups, engine fires and spectator injuries made for a wild start to the second day of the Newcastle Supercars weekend on Saturday.
Two spectators received leg injuries when a tyre jumped the fence near Nobbys surf club during qualifying in the V8 Ute series.
The man and woman were taken away in an ambulance.
The accident happened on Nobbys Road at one of the fastest sections of the track.
An hour later, the first Toyota 86 race of the weekend ended early when a massive pile-up wiped out eight or nine cars in Parnell Place.
One vehicle ended up in flames and the race was called off.
