THE University of Newcastle is offering its online nutrition course again after a “huge response” from students across the globe last year.
There were almost 30,000 enrolments from 180 different countries in the inaugural Science of Weight Loss: Dispelling Diet Myths short course in April.
“The key places were Australia, the US and the UK and a lot of smaller countries that we didn’t expect to get any enrolments from. It was definitely a good turn out,” Dr Rebecca Williams, of the university’s School of Health Sciences, said.
University staff had been contacted by participants who had been able to stop their diabetes medication after taking on board what they learned in the course, and others who had reached their goal weight for the first time since they were 17.
“We’re actually helping people and seeing results,” Dr Williams said.
“We targeted the right people and they got that basic understanding of what they needed.”
The next online course starts on January 31.
