Man charged over Mayfield assault and robbery

About 12.20am on Thursday a 23-year-old man exited a bus on Maitland Road, Mayfield East.

He was approached by a man on O’Mara Street who demanded his wallet.

The man allegedly punched him in the face before he fled with his backpack. He was last seen running on Ingall Street, Mayfield.

About 3.30pm that day, an 18-year-old man was arrested at a home on Margaret Street, Mayfield East.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with robbery and resist officer in the execution of duty.

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Friday.
