Cain Beckett of Jurd’s Real Estate has registered a suburb sale record for Cessnock of $750,000 with his own house and predicted more movement in the market for the area this year.
Mr Beckett renovated a federation home in View Street believed to have been at one time the residence of Australian opera conductor Brian Castles-Onion.
“Appleporch” was a three-bedroom, three-bathroom home on 810 square metres and was named 2014 HIA House of the year for the Hunter Valley.
“I think the market in Cessnock has a fair bit of room to move,” he said. “More and more people are recognising the value for what you can buy here. The area has a lot to offer.”
The sale on December 20 eclipsed the previous suburb record of $700,000, set last year when Baird Real Estate sold a four-bedroom home in Chapman Street
A three-bedroom home on 199 square metres in Bishopsgate Street, Wickham “sold quickly” for $645,000, according to listing agent George Rafty of First National Newcastle City.
Dalton Partners’ John Kerr said “you get a lot of home for your dollars” at Fletcher after he recorded a sale of $740,000 for a four-bedroom, three-bathroom family home with a bushland outlook in Thistle Way.
A three-bedroom home on 337 square metres in Victoria Street, Adamstown, was bought for $631,000.
In Berrico Avenue, Maryland, a three-bedroom house sold for $435,000.
In Birmingham Gardens, a seven-bedroom home in Fussell Street sold for $600,000 and a three-bedroom residence in Ryan Street for $555,000.
A home in Fern Valley Road, Cardiff on just over 1000 square metres sold for $570,000.
In Toronto, a two-bedroom apartment in Victory Parade went for $449,950 and a three-bedroom townhouse in Brighton Avenue for $540,000.
A two-bedroom apartment in Helen Street, Merewether within moments walk of the beach was secured for $640,000.
