It was arguably the most talked about property in the region last year.
Killara, the palatial mansion on Whitebridge’s exclusive Burwood Road which nearly sold in October at a price some industry experts described as “a song”.
The sale did not proceed and the property was removed from the market.
Killara is now being offered for sale again with a price guide of $6.1. million.
The five-bedroom, four-bathroom residence is being marketed by Andrew McGrath of First National Real Estate on behalf of Trudy Douglas, who bought the house in 2002.
Killara, set on 8631 square metres, is surrounded by manicured landscaped gardens and enjoys uninterrupted views of Dudley beach.
No expense was spared when master builder Anthony Murphy and wife Janice built the unique home, which has been passionately maintained over the years.
Features include red granite flooring, convict bricks internally, gold leaf wallpaper, Italian fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling marble bathrooms, Waterford crystal chandeliers and 32 french doors opening onto a sandstone wrap-around verandah.
It has a hand-crafted red cedar bar and staircase, formal entertaining and dining areas, Tasmanian Oak kitchen, 10-car garage, stables and a 15-metre infinity pool with lap lane.
The property has attracted national and international attention since returning to market.
Rare in Redhead
A brand new residence in Redhead’s Cain Street has also attracted plenty of interest since coming to market last week.
Damon Sellis, of Street Property Group, is marketing the three-bedroom home which has ocean views and said it was like no other property in the area.
It is set for auction on February 25 and has a price guide of $1.2 million to $1.3 million. The highest sale for Cain Street of $1 million, according to Australian Property Monitors, was set last year.
“The home is brand new with high-end finishes and it’s in a very sought-after position, next to the beach,” Mr Sellis said.
HIVE OF ACTIVITY
Home buyers were out in force for a couple of first inspections last weekend, according to First National Newcastle City.
George Rafty is marketing 34 Brisbane Water Road, Adamstown with a price guide of $770,000 to $830,000 and had 49 groups through the first open home.
Also in Adamstown, 35 groups went through the first open home of 57 Ella Street, which is set for an auction campaign with a price guide of $880,000 to $950,000.

RANI RECORD
There were two sales over $1 million in Speers Point’s Rani Close last year and if they are any guide, another house that has just been listed could be set to join the club.
PRDnationwide’s Steve Cornes is marketing 8 Rani Close, a five-bedroom, three-bathroom residence, which enjoys an elevated position overlooking Lake Macquarie.
A price guide has not yet been set but the cul-de-sac broke the million-dollar mark last year with sales of $1.1 million and $1.6 million.
“This home has got unimpeded views and it’s a larger home,” Mr Cornes said.
“It also has the unique ability to be full self-contained downstairs with separate access off Thompson Road.”

UNDER $500K
A Cardiff property at 12 Lovell Street listed through Kale Hook of Dotcom Property Sales is not expected to last long with a price guide of $449,000 to $493,000.
The land is 1179 square metres in size and features two lots.
DEVELOPMENT NEWS
There are plenty of new building projects taking shape in the inner city but some new “boutique” townhouse developments being planned for the outer suburbs are also expected to prove popular.
Two of four townhouses under construction in Errington Avenue, New Lambton have already been sold.
Ray White’s Teresa Heighington is marketing the homes and said completion was scheduled for April.
She said a complex of just three homes in Newcastle Street, Hamilton North set for completion mid-year has also attracted interest.
A new development in Prince Street, Waratah offering tri-level townhouses and being sold by PRDnationwide is set to hit the market.
PRDnationwide’s Kyle Hartigan said a point of difference were the townhouses were tri-level and three of the five being built also offered the option of having a self-contained accommodation option on the ground floor.
They are being sold off-the-plan for $595,000 to $620,000 with completion is expected July next year.
