Bishop of Newcastle Peter Stuart on Sunday said Archdeacon Sonia Roulston and Archdeacon Charlie Murry would be ordained as bishops in Christ Church Cathedral on May 10.
The service will be a significant occasion for the diocese, seeing the first woman bishop serve in the Diocese of Newcastle.
Archdeacon Roulston trained for ministry at St Johns College Morpeth and has served in many parishes in the Diocese and is currently the Archdeacon of Newcastle.
Archdeacon Murry joined the diocese in 2010 from Brisbane. Originally from North Queensland he and his family have been based in Singleton where he is also the Archdeacon for the Upper Hunter.
The appointment of the Assistant Bishops comes on Bishop Peter’s first day on the job as Bishop of Newcastle, following his installation and commissioning as the 14th Bishop of Newcastle at Christ Church Cathedral on Friday night.
