SOCIAL media superstar and rescued wombat George has said his goodbyes at the Australian Reptile Park and hit the road.
Named Australia’s most adorable animal in a poll last September, George won hearts after a video of him following the park’s Tim Faulkner around went global. Mr Faulker said it was a sad day but George was ready to make a new start.
“There will always be that empty space beside my desk where he used to sleep now,” Mr Faulkner said. “George’s fame was also a huge help to Australian wildlife.”
George has moved on to Cedar Creek Wombat Sanctuary, where he was weighed and measured before receiving his own enclosure.
He came to the Australian Reptile Park after a passer-by found him in the pouch of his mother, who was hit and killed by a car.
