Seventy-four lives were lost on Hunter roads in the 12 months to January, NSW Centre for Road Safety data shows.
This was a 22 per cent rise on the average of 60.7 lives lost each year from 2015 to 2017.
In January alone, 10 lives were lost on Hunter roads – the same figure as last year.
The Herald reported last week that a 36-year-old woman died after a car and truck collided at Denman.
Additionally, a 17-year-old girl died last Monday while walking to a bus stop near her home at Brandy Hill.
A 42-year-old neighbour driving a Toyota Prado allegedly hit the Hunter School of the Performing Arts student on a country road near her home.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced new road safety measures last week to tackle speeding, drug and drink driving, driver distraction, fatigue and truck safety.

“Every 41 minutes in NSW someone is either killed or seriously injured on our roads,” Ms Berejiklian said
