The dramatic transport shake-up came after the NSW government handed the reins of Newcastle’s public transport to private operator Keolis Downer.
While Keolis Downer has defended the changes – and said the new bus network was open for tweaking – many stories across the community have surfaced from people who rely on public transport but feel the new timetable has made their travels more difficult.
Swansea MP Yasmin Catley, Charlestown MP Jodie Harrison, Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp and Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery organised the meeting.
Parliamentary secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald, the state government’s representative for the region, will also attend, as will NSW Labor leader Luke Foley.
