Sometimes there are impediments, and no one appearance constitutes the ideal.
Expectations vary from one individual to the next and ultimately satisfaction involves what makes a person feel comfortable and confident in who they are, according to Dr Masood Ansari, from My Cosmetic Clinic.
“Peoples’ needs change over life,” he said. “A person might not be happy with the way they are ageing, for example, and they are look for a treatment that can ease that concern.
“Sometimes a person is dealing with weight-loss issues. Many women look for assistance in restoring aspects of their person post pregnancy. Sun damage can cause wrinkles and changes to the skin over a lifetime. Other people simply wish to enhance a natural feature of their body.
“It comes down to the individual and where they are at in their life. We take that journey with them.”

My Cosmetic Clinic Newcastle, which has just opened a new office on Honeysuckle Drive, offers a range of non-surgical and surgical treatments utilising a holistic approach. Non surgical treatments include anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, threadlift and skin rejuvenation treatments like chemical peels, skin needling, lasers etc.
Cosmetic surgical treatments range from facial surgery – eyelid, face and brow lifts; to breast augmentation – lifts and reductions; to liposuction – tummy tucks, arms lifts and thigh lifts.
“Individual treatment needs come down to balancing expectation with what’s possible to be delivered,” Dr Ansari said.
“Every person is unique and important and we strive to form personal relationships with people, taking them as a whole, listening to their needs and tailoring solutions. Within reasonable expectations many things are achievable.”
Cosmetic treatments are not just the domain of the female population.
“Approximately 15-20 per cent of our clients are male, which reflects an increasing awareness and desire amongst the male population to look good,” Dr Ansari said.
“People want to maintain themselves for personal confidence or job reasons or they’re looking for a partner, and more and more are exploring cosmetic options like tummy tucks, facelifts etc.”
My Cosmetic Clinic has been operating in Newcastle since 2013.
Formerly on Hunter Street, Dr Ansari felt the time was right this year to make the move to a vibrant new location at 26 Honeysuckle Drive.
“It’s a fantastic and visible part of Newcastle as the city moves ahead, and the water views are great,” he said.
Dr Ansari founded My Cosmetic Clinic in 2011 and now operates nine clinics across NSW which strive to provide the best possible service at the best possible price.
“The general procedure if you are seeking treatment is that we have a consultation so we can get to know your concerns and expectations,” Dr Ansari said. “We then provide the client with options, outlining the pros and cons of each, in order to help the person make a decision that suits them best.”
Surgical treatments are generally walk in, walk out, with extensive follow-up to ensure things go smoothly and that the patient is comfortable throughout the process.
Dr Ansari has trained in Australia and overseas with degrees from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, a Masters in Surgery at Cardiff University and a Fellowship of Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery.
With a background in general surgery he was attracted to the cosmetic field by the combination of science and artistry.
“Being a student of both, I find it very satisfying and motivational,” he said.
“Cosmetic surgery is a skill with an element of natural instinct. You need to know what to do, how much, where and when to stop. As the saying goes, ‘We can all paint but not all paint well.’
“People seek help for many reasons. They are not sick, but they want to change things that they are not happy with, or would like to improve.
“To be able to facilitate that is satisfying both personally and professionally.”
