WAKING up to the kookaburras and parrots this morning and wondering if these sounds will still be heard in urban areas in the future. Development apace in North Lake Macquarie seems to be robbing us of the big older trees that legislation should protect. Too untidy, or need to sweep the pine needles now and again? It’s not good enough to replace a tall and stately Norfolk Island pine with low and slow growing species which won't provide the fauna habitat of established trees for many years to come.

IF Raymond Grainger (Short Takes, 1/3) likes the Australian flag and thinks it should be retained there are many good arguments he could put in support of his view. Instead he simply abuses someone who has a different opinion and suggests he "pack up and move on". This is also intellectual laziness of the worst kind. If he wants to live in a place where only his own views are tolerated then perhaps it is he who should be considering relocation, but I doubt he will find anywhere that suits his needs.

OUR PM has written to every school principal urging them to stamp out bullying in schools, maybe he should also write to every Labor senator and ask them not to bully his ministers as they are a fragile bunch and under pressure could resort to uncontrolled verbal outbursts of stupidity for which they will not apologise.
