To raise awareness about homelessness, Macquarie Care are giving the community an opportunity to experience the scenario with a sleep-out fundraiser.
The ‘A Night Under the Stars’ fundraiser will allow the public to bring their own car to the Macquarie Life Church for a movie night.
Macquarie Care runs the ‘Our Backyard’ homeless program on a property in Lake Macquarie.
The program helped 120 people in 2017 and helps people return to residential accommodation.
Program manager Peter Di Girolamo says Macquarie Care are hoping to raise $50,000 from the event for Our Backyard and their other community projects.
“Get on board, this is our inaugural [event],” he said.
“We’d encourage anyone who’s remotely interested in knowing what it’s like for a homeless person in the community, to register.”
The fundraiser will be held on Friday, April 6. You can register your car for $25 and make donations at www.macquariecare.org.au
