NEWCASTLE police have laid further charges over a break-in at Adamstown Heights at the weekend.
Police said on Monday they had since charged a 22-year-old man on a string of offences after his release from hospital.
It is alleged two men attempted to climb through the window into the home of an elderly man on Stayton Street about 11.30pm on Saturday.
Police attended the scene and the dog squad began to trace the two men who fled the scene.
Police dog Kane gave chase to the two men for about three kilometres after the men ran into bushland.
The dog later collapsed but made a recovery.
The man was charged with offences including aggravated break-and-enter and resisting police.
He was refused bail and will front Newcastle Local Court on Monday.
