How about an extra long weekend!
Daylight savings time will finish this Sunday morning, April 1, giving everyone an extra long weekend.
Residents are reminded to wind their clocks back one hour at 3am. But for most people, whose devices sort themselves out, this is more a reminder that everyone gets an extra hour of blissful sleep..unless you live in QLD, WA or NT of course.
The end of daylight saving is such a big deal the Attorney General Mark Speakman has even put out a statement.
“Most of our computers, mobile phones and tablets will update automatically, but those with older devices and manually-wound watches will need to put them back by one hour before going to bed on Saturday night”, Mr Speakman said.
“The sun is now coming up at 7am when many people are already awake and getting ready for their day. As it gets colder, the return to standard time will help ensure we’re not starting our day in the dark.”
SAFETY REMINDER
Each year at the end of daylight saving time, firefighters encourage NSW residents to change the batteries in their smoke alarms when they change their clocks. Even if the alarm is new, it is a good opportunity to test that it is working correctly.
Daylight saving time will resume in NSW on Sunday, October 7, when clocks will go forward one hour.
Daylight saving was introduced in Australia during World War I in 1917 and was adopted by Australia again for part of World War II. It has been a permanent fixture on the NSW calendar since 1971.
