POLICE are warning motorists not to forget the simple things behind the wheel after an unusual number of seat belt infringements were issued on Hunter roads in one day.

Police said they booked at least 10 motorists for not wearing seat belts in the Hunter on the first day of Operation Tortoise, with 50 speeding tickets and 200 other infringements also issued.
Heavy traffic was reported at Hexham bridge on Friday morning.
There was also an accident on maitland Road and a four-vehicle crash about 12.30pm on the New England Highway at Tarro.
Authorities are preparing for major traffic headaches on Monday morning and afternoon.
