Many teenagers achieve straight smiles through traditional orthodontic treatments. But this often leads to healthy teeth being needlessly removed, and doesn’t always solve the underlying cause of dental crowding and “bad bites”.

Introducing IMDO

IMDO is a revolutionary new way for teenagers to achieve straight teeth and a perfect bite without the need for taking out teeth. The brainchild of top maxillofacial surgeon Dr Paul Coceancig, this treatment flies in the face of traditional orthodontics by correcting the source of the problem rather than treating the symptoms.

Orthodontic treatment is based on the assumption that dental crowding and “bad bites” are caused by a person having too many teeth, or their teeth being too big. This is why healthy teeth are often removed to “make room” for the remaining teeth to be aligned with braces.

If your teenager’s teeth are beginning to look crooked or crowded, there’s a good chance their jaw is too small – and this can cause a number of dental and health-related problems over time.

The problems with a small jaw

Facial appearance is influenced by the size and structure of their jaws so removing teeth reduces the size of their jaws, narrows their smile and flattens their face.

Many teens have their teeth straightened through traditional orthodontics. Those with small jaws and crowded teeth often have teeth removed as a normal part of their orthodontic treatment.

Your teen’s facial appearance is influenced by the size and structure of their jaws. Removing teeth reduces the size of their jaws, narrows their smile and flattens their face. These negative effects become even more pronounced with age.

Small jaws are associated with a number of serious health issues, the most important being airway obstruction and how it disrupts healthy sleeping. The flow-on effects to your child’s concentration, learning and memory, impact on their performance school.

As an adult, the most obvious sign of airway obstruction is snoring. This snoring can progress to a far more serious condition called sleep apnoea, which increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and depression.

All of this is why Dr Coceancig believed an alternative to traditional orthodontics was needed, one which would treat a teenager’s jaw and not just their teeth – and so IMDO was born.

IMDO explained

IMDO treatment will give your teenager ideal facial proportions, and boost their self-esteem.
IMDO treatment will give your teenager ideal facial proportions, and boost their self-esteem.

IMDO is an innovative type of jaw surgery which helps the lower jaw to grow to its ideal size. This creates room for all the teeth to be easily and quickly straightened, without the need for taking out healthy teeth.

It’s a simple procedure no more involved than removing wisdom tooth, but far more beneficial to health and happiness.

Growth devices are used to grow the jaw over a two week period. The space created allows room for the crowded teeth to align. The forward movement of the lower jaw results in creating a lower jaw that is in proportion with the rest of their face.

The treatment is individually tailored, as every face is unique. Your teenager will not just end up with improved health and a stunning smile – IMDO treatment will also give them ideal facial proportions, and boost their self-esteem.
