Some of the state’s finest young athletes will be in the Hunter next weekend for the 2018 Your Local Club Academy Games.
Hosted by the Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS), the event will be held at various venues from Friday to Sunday, April 27-29.
It will bring together the 11 Regional Academies of Sport (RAS) in NSW, including Central Coast, Far West, Illawarra, Hunter, North Coast, Northern Inland, South East, South West Sydney, Southern, Western Region and Western Sydney.
Guest Academies will also feature, including: ACT, Sydney Netball, Albury, Sydney North and Sydney East.
It’s first time HAS will host the event after it was passed on from the Central Coast. Representing massive growth from previous years, roughly 1300 athletes will compete in eight different sports; basketball, golf, hockey, netball, softball, surfing, AFL and tennis.
The Games begin on the Friday from 5pm with an opening ceremony at Newcastle Basketball Stadium.
