A MAN will face court over an alleged carjacking in a University of Newcastle car park.
Port Stephens-Hunter police district officers arrested a 26-year-old man on Greenhills Avenue at Woodberry about 8.40am on Tuesday.
He was taken to Maitland police station and charged with offences including an outstanding warrant, aggravated assault with intent to take motor vehicle, larceny, give false name, receive/dispose of stolen property and damage property by fire.
Police will allege a 19-year-old man was walking to his vehicle, a red Mazda 3, at the University of Newcastle about 1.30pm on Saturday March 24. As he opened the car door, the teenager was allegedly threatened with a firearm by another man who fled the scene in the Mazda.
Newcastle police were notified of the incident and launched an investigation, which included a canvas of the area and reviewing CCTV footage.
Tuesday’s arrest was made following extensive inquiries.
The 26-year-old man was refused bail. He is due to face Maitland Local Court on Wednesday.
