Sharron Campbell started work in the administration office at Kotara High on April 2, 1975 and still works there three days a week.
“I only expected to work until my youngest child finished school, which was in 2001,” she said. “However, I loved my job and really enjoyed all the people I worked with especially the administration staff.”
Over her time Sharron has worked with all principals.
“Each Principal and Deputy has been different and brought with them different challenges,” she said.
“When I began here the school put on musicals/drama performances at venues such as the Griffith Duncan Theatre at the University, they were wonderful. The seniors would put on fashion parades which were always a big hit.
“I would go along to the swimming and athletics carnivals as the first aid person.
“There were some big characters here who made the school very interesting.
“Social activities always played a big part and the regular Kotara High Golf Day was a big hit with the staff. A golf newsletter would be produced after each event with caricatures of all the participants.”
The biggest change Sharron has noted is definitely technology.
“When I began here in 1975 we used manual typewriters,” she said.
“There were two general dssistants in the school. One looked after the ground maintenance and one was in the print room looking after the printing press.
“There were no photo copiers. We progressed eventually to electric typewriters and then about 1983 the Oasis system was introduced.”
Sharron has always been very proud to be a part of Kotara High School and in her small way hopes she has made a difference.
“It is very rewarding to see past students in many walks of life,” she said. “They greet me with, ‘You used to work at Kotara High.’ And I reply, ‘Yes, I am still there.’ “
