
Police are appealing for public assistance after a man presented himself to John Hunter Hospital with a gunshot wound.
Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District were initially called to Renfrew Crescent, Edgeworth, after calls to Triple-0 reported a gun had been fired about 5pm Thursday.
A short time later, a 30-year-old man sought treatment at hospital for a gunshot wound to his right lower leg.
A crime scene was established as officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Anyone with information about the shooting, or anyone seen in the vicinity of Renfrew Crescent acting suspiciously, is urged to call Belmont Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
