The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has performed well at recent NSW Combined Catholic Colleges events.
At the NSWCCC girls AFL trials Hallie Craigie from All Saints College (ASC) was a standout being named in the NSWCCC team.
For the boys AFL, Damian Haynes and Travis Petersen – both from St Pius – trialled strongly to be named in the northern team. All three players will now represent NSWCCC at the NSW All Schools Championships.
At the 15yrs netball there were 90 girls from all over the State. Taylor Winter from ASC shot well all day to be named in the NSWCCC team as goal shooter.
Dakota Thomas from St Paul’s Booragul goes from strength to strength with her netball. Dakota has made the NSWCCC team for the past few years and last year was awarded a NSWCCC blue for her talent. Dakota’s ability to read the play and her outstanding defensive skills saw her again named in the open NSWCCC team, as was Eliza Hand from St Catherine’s Singleton.
The Dioceses strength in rugby is growing with Harry Kettles, Jack Gleeson, Logan Badger, Logan Millard and Tim Ryan all named in the under-16 NSWCCC side.
Alex Vaughan and Jacob Barrett were named in the under-18 NSWCCC team. All will head to Sydney in June for the NSW All Schools event.
Charlie Caffery from St Joseph’s East Maitland and Jeremy Kennedy from St John Vianney Morisset represented Polding at the recent NSW PSSA Basketball Championships. Polding finished sixth overall.
