Belmont bounced back in round six of the Newcastle baseball competition recording an 11-7 win over Boomerangs at Mayfield on Sunday.
In a free-hitting display Belmont recorded 13 hits.
Jason Rees was outstanding, recording four safe hits including two towering home runs.
Greg Allen also had four hits, while youngster Sam McLean notched his first home run in the premier grade.
Schoolboy sensation Mitch Ellison stood out with an all-round performance for Belmont, recording three safe hits while completing five quality innings on the mound.
Tim Voight toiled manfully for the Boomerangs side, pitching seven innings in difficult conditions.
In the other game, Toronto continued their undefeated march with a 10-0 mercy-rule win over Phoenix at Waterboard Oval.
Strong pitching for Toronto from Jason McAdam and Tom Holland highlighted the game.
With the bat Pat Maat recorded three safe hits for Toronto, with Phoenix veteran Sean Doudle picking up a brace for himself.
Heading into round seven of the competition, Toronto are one win clear of White Sox, with Belmont now in outright third position.
This weekend White Sox and Boomerangs will do battle, while last year’s grand finalists Belmont and Toronto lock horns at Toronto.
The Newcastle women’s league continues on Sunday from 12pm at University.
