Newcastle co-captain Jamie Buhrer has been cleared of a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and could be back on the field within six to eight weeks.
In a huge boost to the Knights, Buhrer was operated on in Sydney on Tuesday night with specialists giving him the all clear on a ruptured ACL that would have ended his season.
Surgeons cleaned out Buhrer’s knee and the feeling is he could be back as early as round 21 depending on how the rehabilitation goes.
Buhrer left the field before halftime against the Sydney Roosters last weekend with initial fears he would require a knee reconstruction for a third time in his career.
