
A 44-year-old Woodberry man has had charges upgraded to manslaughter following the death of another man this week after he was injured during an altercation in January earlier this year.
Two men had become involved in an altercation outside a licensed premises on Wharf Road at Newcastle on Sunday, January 14, at around 6.30pm before a 45-year-old man was allegedly punched once to the face causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.
The injured man was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he died on Wednesday, June 27.
A 44-year-old man, who was arrested and charged shortly after the alleged incident, has now had his charges upgraded to manslaughter.
The accused has been refused bail and will appear at Newcastle Local Court on Friday.
