The passionate bibliophiles among us know there is no greater sound than the crack of opening a new book.
Chilled winter days call for snuggling under a blanket and escaping reality – or delving deeper into it, depending on your tastes – and curling up with a good book.
Creating a comfortable reading nook however, is no accident.
There are a few ways to make sure you enjoy hours of bliss as you bunker down and read.
Start with the seating. It’s important to find the seat that suits you best.
Choose a chair that allows you to stretch out and relax as you read or make sure you have space for a footstool.
“So please, oh please, we beg, we pray, Go throw your TV set away, And in its place you can install, A lovely bookshelf on the wall. Then fill the shelves with lots of books.”- Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Look at fabrics such as velour and and corduroy for maximum warmth and comfort.
Allow room for a table at the side. A hot cup of tea or a couple of spare books on hand will always be a welcome addition.
If you are not lucky enough to be able to nab a spot near a window, you’ll need a lamp or a bright ceiling light.
A reading nook is all about feeling comfortable, safe and warm. Surround yourself with things that make you feel that way.
Ensure the space is clear of clutter but add personal touches and top off the space with a rug for your lap.
Sitting in one place for so long can make your body relax and your temperature drop, so a rug is a great way to stay cosy – and it can be used to decorate the chair when you’re not there.
