TWO people have been arrested after a pursuit through Newcastle on Saturday.
The man and woman were arrested at Wallsend after a chase that police said involved stolen vehicles. It began after a report of a stolen Audi in the Charlestown area about 10.30am.
The police helicopter found the vehicle in New Lambton, monitoring it as it travelled through that suburb, Lambton, Rankin Park and Wallsend.
It was abandoned on Tyrell Street. “The three occupants then stole a Suzuki Swift, with PolAir continuing to monitor the vehicle as it travelled through Wallsend, Minmi, Lenaghan, and along the motorway where it exited onto the Wallsend Link Road,” police said.
Highway patrol officers saw the vehicle heading into bushland off the Link Road at Wallsend before it was abandoned.
The three occupants ran from the scene while Newcastle and Lake Macquarie police established a perimeter.
A search of the bushland involving the police dog unit found a 27-year-old man and a woman, 18.
Both were arrested and taken to Newcastle police station.
Police said inquiries were continuing and they were attempting to find a second man.
