Up steps Shark, real name Amy Billings, with Adore. It reaches No.2 on the triple j Hottest 100 and suddenly the Gold Coast singer-songwriter has finally cracked it. Shark’s debut album Love Monster arrives two years later and features another radio-friendly hit I Said Hi.
However, Love Monster does struggle beyond the singles and it fails to reveal Shark’s identity. On All Loved Up she tries to be Australia’s answer to Lorde, yet strangely while singing in a American accent.
Lyrically the songs deal with teenage obsessions of love and heartbreak, which again feels contrived given Shark is 32 and married.
However, Shark is talented enough to return with more bite.
