A MAN will face court on Friday after allegedly carjacking and assaulting a female pizza delivery driver in Lake Macquarie overnight.
The 21-year-old driver was stopped by a man while working in Tennent Road at Mount Hutton about 7.30pm.
It is alleged the man, who police said was standing in the middle of the street, entered the car and demanded she drive him to Warners Bay.
When the woman tried to flee the man allegedly grabbed her around the neck, stopping her from leaving the vehicle.
Members of the public came to her aid and called police.
Lake Macquarie officers attended and arrested the man as he was allegedly attempting to break into another vehicle.
An officer received minor injuries to his leg when the 27-year-old man allegedly resisted arrest.
The man was taken to the Mater hospital for observation. He was later taken to Belmont police station and charged with detain for advantage, choke person with intent to commit indictable offence and wound police officer in execution of duty.
The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court.
