Consider the first song of her own that she ever recorded, All My Love. It’s a parting farewell to a lover, wishing him the best of luck with his new love interest, finishing with the flourish on the line, “When you hold her at night, I hope she does all the things you like, I hope she gives you all her love, like I gave you all of my love.”

Jones, of Newcastle, coins it as a “classic love song”. On July 27, she performed a special rendition of All My Love at The Press Bookhouse on Hunter Street, accompanied by Newcastle guitarist Adam Miller, for episode seven of the Herald Sessions.

“It’s about having loved and realising when it’s time to let go and move on,” she says. “But also doing that with grace and understanding.

“It’s not a vindictive song. It’s a song of grief and gratitude all at once. Balance.”

Jones has been singing since she was a child, but it’s only in the last two years she has sharply focused on her own music, writing songs on piano and guitar and performing those songs with a backing band of supporting musicians.

“Georgie Jones has existed for two years,” she says. “Before that, I was  usually collaborating a lot, rather than doing my own solo music. Always as a vocalist. In bands, working with producers. I had done session work, bits and pieces. But never my own music.

“This is my first project of original material.”

The evolution of Georgie Jones makes complete sense, to her. She had things she wanted to say with her music, and found it, well, therapeutic.

I felt it was necessary for me to start writing my own things, part of the process of experiences,:” she says. “That’s the artist’s journey really. To find your voice.”
