UP AND AWAY Peterson House is about to launch its very own hot-air balloon and on September 8, 5pm to 8pm, is hosting a party of sorts to celebrate the occasion. There will be food, bubbly, face painting, a jumping castle, live music and more. Entry $5 per person, or $15 per family, with proceeds going to Buy a Bale.
FORK TO FARM Pubs and clubs across the region are continuing to help drought-affected communities. Bushrangers Bar & Brasserie at Largs is hosting a three-course Fork to Farm Gala Dinner on September 15. Matt Semens will provide the soundtrack and there will be auctions and raffles. Tickets $70 per person.
DOORS CLOSED Tall Trees Restaurant at Cooranbong has closed. Owner and chef Lewis Budd thanked the community for their support.
STREET INSPIRED The Clarendon Hotel’s street food special for August is inspired by Hawaiian cuisine – think poké tostados, Hawaiian chicken sliders and a pulled pork salad. It’s available Monday to Wednesday nights and all meals are $10 to $12.
NEW MARKET The Pelican Foreshore Markets launch on September 1 with plenty of food options to explore. The markets will be held on the first Saturday of the month, 9am to 1pm.
SODA SUNDAY Adam’s Ribs & Pizza is hosting Soda Tasting Sunday on September 9 to raise money for Aussie Helpers, a group providing equipment, food and emotional support for farmers. More than 60 varieties of soda will be on offer plus snacks. The cost is $20 per person and all proceeds go to Aussie Helpers.
GIDDY UP Newcastle Harness Racing Club is also participating in the Parma for a Farmer promotion supporting Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale promotion. Also, 50 per cent of gate takings for August 18 and 24, And September 1, and $200 per race sponsorship taken up will also be donated.
