Police have found a Central Coast property where they allege up to 17,000 tonnes of waste believed to contain asbestos has been illegally dumped.

Sydney detectives attached to Strike Force Dothan found the waste at Cherry Lane, Kulnura, on Wednesday morning.
Police and officers from the NSW Environmental Protection Authority spoke with the property owners, who said they were advised the waste being dumped at their property was clean fill.
Strike Force Dothan has been investigating alleged anomalies in the removal and disposal of waste as part of the Green Square Town Centre development.

It came after contractors were engaged to remove excavated material in August, 2016, which included restricted waste that could only have been disposed of at two Sydney sites.
Samples from the Kulnura property will be analysed and it is anticipated that large-scale remediation will be required.
Police believe the illegal dumping operation is linked to organised crime.
Investigations continue into the matter are ongoing.
